Complex Boring Processes

Boring is the process of enlarging holes that have already been drilled to make them concentric, properly sized, and finished. It can become more complex when it involves intricate machined parts and materials. The following are boring processes used for more complicated projects.

Blind Bottom Boring

A hole with a bottom or surface that doesn’t allow the drill or tool to go through the part requires blind bottom boring. These state-of-the-art equipment must be operated by a skilled machinist to achieve tight tolerances and finishes. Blind bottom bores can have flat or flush bottoms with round or tapered edges. For precision blind bottom boring, a knowledge of different metals and alloys is optimum.

Step Boring

A step bore is a specialty boring process with multiple diameters or features. Step boring tools have inserts set at different heights and diameters. Machinists are able to enlarge existing bores or add features within exact finish requirements and tolerances.

Chamfering

Confluent Maine precision machines chamfers (beveled edges) in a variety of metals and metal alloys. While chamfers are usually cut at 45 degree angles, Confluent Maine also has the ability to round or taper edges, and machine at transition points.

Pattern Drilling

Pattern drilling comes in play for complex projects that involve removing material in a sequence of machined holes, in a variety of sizes, depths and physical orientations. This state-of-the-art boring process is performed in a carefully controlled manufacturing facility.
